Hangars, Barns and Big Garages
Epoxy flooring in Samsula-Spruce Creek covers a wider mix of buildings than most places we work. Wikipedia describes the census-designated place as principally an agricultural area west of Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach. In 2020, about 41% of its 4,877 residents lived in areas the census counts as rural. Nearby, the private Spruce Creek Airport has 438 based aircraft on a 4,000-foot runway. Between farm buildings, aircraft hangars and large home garages, we see a lot of big slabs out here.
Hangar floors
A hangar floor has to handle fuel, hydraulic fluid, tire marks and the weight of an aircraft on small contact patches. It also needs to be bright, so small leaks and dropped hardware are easy to spot. For hangars we usually recommend:
- Diamond grinding of the full slab, including edges and corners
- Crack and joint repair so the floor stays smooth under tugs and carts
- A 100% solids epoxy base in a light color that reflects shop lighting
- A chemical-resistant topcoat, with light texture where people walk
If you want a showpiece floor, we can add flake or a metallic finish in the lounge or office area of the hangar.
Spruce Creek's history
The Spruce Creek Airport started as a World War II outlying field for Naval Air Station DeLand and NAS Daytona Beach. It had four 4,000-foot paved runways, and the Navy left in 1946. The current airport was founded in 1974 on the old field. Some of the older paved surfaces and slabs in the area have seen decades of use, so we look closely at cracks and patches before we quote.
Barns and farm shops
Agricultural buildings take dirt, fertilizer, fuel and equipment every day. Coating a barn floor makes it easier to sweep and hose out, and it keeps spills from soaking into the concrete. Many barn slabs were poured without a vapor barrier, so moisture testing comes first. We use moisture-tolerant primers when the readings call for it, and we will tell you if the slab is too wet for any coating.
Home garages
The 2020 census counted 2,512 housing units here and a median age of 58.4. Larger lots leave room for bigger garages, and we often find a golf cart, a workbench and a second refrigerator inside. A flake floor with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat is our most common choice. It hides dust from dirt roads and holds up to hot tires. For a lanai or pool deck, we use a light-colored, textured outdoor system.
Planning around your schedule
A hangar or barn often cannot sit empty for long. We can coat a large building in sections when that helps, and we tell you up front how long each section needs before it can take traffic. For home garages, a polyaspartic system usually means you are back on the floor quickly. All of this goes into the written quote.
One visit, every building
On rural and airpark lots, we prefer to see everything at once. Tell us about the garage, hangar, barn and porch when you call. We will measure each one, test each slab and write a quote that lists each building on its own line.

Samsula-Spruce Creek Questions
What coating works best in an aircraft hangar?
A 100% solids epoxy base in a light color with a chemical-resistant topcoat. It stands up to fuel and hydraulic fluid and makes leaks easy to spot. We add texture in walkways and keep it smoother where carts and tugs roll.
Can you coat an old barn slab?
Often, yes. We test for moisture first, since many barn slabs have no vapor barrier. Then we grind, repair cracks and apply a moisture-tolerant primer if needed. If the slab is crumbling or too wet, we will say so before you spend money.
Do you quote multiple buildings on one property?
Yes. We measure and test each slab in one visit and list each building separately in the written quote.
